Bradley Quelch Wootten, age 81, passed away May 18, 2026, at Novant Hospital in Wilmington, NC, following a brief illness.

He was born November 21, 1944, at James Walker Memorial Hospital in Wilmington NC to Bradley Jewett Wootten and Gerda Quelch Wootten, who predecease him along with his first wife, Patricia Vaughn Wootten.

Bradley’s paternal ancestors reach back into colonial era Wilmington. His great-grandfather Rev. Edward Wootten was an Episcopal minister who lived next door to St. James Church on South Third Street, with his wife Eliza Yonge Jewett Wootten. One of his fondest memories as a young boy was ascending the bell tower at St. James Church with his grandfather, the late Edward Wootten to survey what was then all of Wilmington.

Bradley proudly served his country in the United States Army for 22 years, beginning with a tour in Vietnam (1968), and was later assigned to multiple Army bases in the U.S. and Germany. He completed his service in 1990 at The Pentagon, where he served in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Logistics, and Environment. He rose to the rank of Lt. Col., and among others, was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and the Army Commendation Medal during his career.

Fully aware he had more to offer following retirement from the Army, Bradley accepted a position with PEC Solutions, Inc. in Fairfax, VA, where for the next twenty years, he provided support to federal and state agencies for the implementation, acquisition, and management of information technology and related products and services. He also served as an Adjunct Full Professor in the Graduate School of Business at Webster University for forty years, lecturing on various business and acquisition related subjects.

Bradley graduated with an M.S. in Information Systems Management from the University of Southern California in 1980. He was awarded his B.S. degree in Business Administration/Sociology from Coker College in 1974. Bradley graduated from A.C. Flora High School in Columbia, S.C.

As notable as his many career accomplishments were, Bradley fed his soul by spending time with his large and loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rebecca Lynne Owens and their Jack Russell/Schnauzer dog Minnie Pearl; daughter Patricia Wootten of Woodbridge, VA; daughter Ginger Auld of Greenville, SC; daughter Lynn Auld Turner (Mark) of Traveler’s Rest, SC; daughter Betsy Auld Rowell (Jeff) of Pawley’s Island, S.C. He is also survived by one sister, Missy Aslund (Charlie) of Fuquay Varina, NC, and niece Hannah (Andy) Johnson.

He was a cherished grandfather to four grandchildren: Ashley Rowell Testerman, Sara Turner Redmon (Michael), Austin Rowell (Tricia), and Abby Rowell, in addition to four great grandchildren, Cooper Testerman, Lilly Testerman, Hayden Rowell, and Colton Rowell.

Bradley is also survived by a large family of cousins in the area, with whom he enjoyed spending time once he returned to his origins in Wilmington, NC. It was one of those cousins, family matriarch Dr. Anne Russell, who introduced him eight years ago to his wife, Rebecca.

Bradley held memberships in the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), the American Legion, and the VFW. He also was an enthusiastic member of the Carolina Yacht Club in Wrightsville Beach, NC, where his great uncle Richard Bradley had been the first Commodore. Suppers on the dining porch with family and friends delighted Brad in recent times.

His wry sense of humor and his talent for the “odd insight” will be terribly missed. During retirement, Bradley developed his skills as an amateur cartoonist, birthing a delightfully mischievous character that only he could invent: Mr. Spooky. He enjoyed commenting on the world through Mr. Spooky, offering insights into human nature, with the unexpected twist. He and his wife Rebecca enjoyed spending time together on the beach and attending regular concerts at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater and Live at Ted’s. Their shared love of Americana and Bluegrass music gave them considerable pleasure.

In lieu of flower gifts, please consider donating in Brad’s memory to one of his favorite charities, . The church is located at 4853 Masonboro Loop Rd. Wilmington, NC 28409.

Frances (Frankie) Cauley Earnst, 74, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2025 due to complications associated with dementia. She was surrounded by family and friends, just the way it was supposed to be. Frankie was born in Clinton, SC on December 8, 1950, the only daughter of Frank Edd Cauley and Willie Pruitt Cauley. After graduation from Clinton High School in 1969, Frankie attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC, where she met many of her best friends to this day. Upon graduation in 1973 with a degree in Elementary and Special Education, Frankie and her roommate set out to seek their fortunes in . Both found employment at Knightsville Elementary School, where Frankie found her calling. She so enjoyed teaching young children. In March, 1975, she met her future husband at a wedding and became engaged later that year. Doug and Frankie married in December 1976 and she continued to teach until their first son, Brad, was born in November 1979. In April, 1984, they welcomed their second son, Daniel, and Frankie continued to provide the nurture and care that made their home so special. As the boys grew, she became more involved with activities associated with the boy’s school and the family’s church. Everything was better when she was around. She had a sparkle in her eye, a keen sense of humor and an infectious love of life and everything in it. Susan Bartell Yarborough, 74, passed away peacefully at home on August 20, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born on May 15, 1951, in Hemingway, South Carolina, Susan was the daughter of John H. Bartell Sr. and Eleida Altman Bartell. She was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Marion Presbyterian Church, where she faithfully served as an Elder.

Susan pursued her passion for teaching at Coker College and dedicated 40 years to education in Marion School District I. Teaching was her true calling, and she cherished the opportunity to nurture and inspire her students. Beyond the classroom, she was a proud Swamp Fox fan and a loyal supporter of the athletic programs. For many seasons, she could be found running the scoreboard at Marion High School basketball games, cheering her Swamp Foxes every step of the way!

After retirement, Susan continued to pour her heart into the community and friendships. She was an active member of the Marion Azalea Club, the Book Review Club, and the Bridge Club, fondly known as the “Bridgettes” – who may or may not actually play Bridge. She loved the outdoors, whether tending her yard, bird watching, or enjoying a quick game of monkey in the middle with her family. Time at the beach was among her greatest joys, often with a good book in hand and Jimmy Buffett playing in the background.

Above all, Susan treasured her role as a mother and grandmother, cherishing time spent with her family and proudly following their many activities.

Susan leaves behind a legacy of love that will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons, Stanley Dean Yarborough Jr. (Donna) of Easley, SC, and Jon Francis Yarborough (Stephanie) of Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren, Hampton Yarborough, Libby Claire Yarborough, Calhoun Yarborough, Russell Yarborough, Harrison Yarborough, and Henry Yarborough; her brother, John H. Bartell Jr (Angela) of Lake City, SC; her nephew, John H. Bartell III; along with many cousins and dear friends.
The family is deeply grateful to McLeod Health Hospice Care, Wayfinder In Home Care, and to very special friends – Esther, Genoveva, Jeanette, Kiki, Lisa, Mary, Queenie, and Shanna – for the kindness, dignity, and care they provided to Susan, as well as the comfort they brought to the entire family.

A graveside service will be held at Indiantown Presbyterian Church (4865 Hemingway Highway, Hemingway, SC 29554) on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Marion Presbyterian Church (208 South Main Street, 29571).
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to McLeod Health Hospice (1203 East Cheves Street, Florence, SC 29506), Bold & Beautiful Wigs for Cancer (1561 Hwy17 North, Little River, SC 29566) or Marion Presbyterian Church (208 South Main Street, 29571).
